 Commissioner Fred McClure

COMMISSIONER FRED MCCLURE

Commissioner Fred McClure was born on February 14, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He resides in the Welcome community and is a member of First Alliance Church.  

Commissioner McClure served four years in the United States Air Force and four years in the United States Navy and six years in the Lexington National Guard unit. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and received the National Defense medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation during his military career. Following his service in the armed forces, Commissioner McClure moved to Davidson County and is married to Kay McClure. Their family now consists of two grown children and three grandchildren.


Fred opened McClure Insurance Group in 1975 and has been serving Davidson county residents and businesses since then. He is a full service, independent insurance broker, holding the professional designations of LUTCF (Life Underwriters Fellow) CIPA (Certified Professional Insurance Agent) and CSA (Certified Senior Consultant).  Mr. McClure enjoys golfing and Corvettes. He previously served as a Davidson County Commissioner from 1994 to 2002 and was re-elected in 2004.  Commissioner McClure is President of the NCACC (North Carolina Association of County Commissioners).  This position has not been held by any other commissioner in Davidson County.  He also serves on the Executive Board of Cardinal Innovations.  

Commissioner McClure's term on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners expires in December, 2020. He is currently serving his sixth (non-consecutive) term.
