Davidson FREE Income Tax Assistance Program
Ten Reasons Why You Should Become a Trained and Certified Tax Volunteer
Volunteers are needed to assist in the preparation of free income tax returns at the Davidson County Tax Coalition's FREE Income Tax Assistance sites. These volunteers may serve as site greeters, enter taxpayer information into tax preparation computer software, or become certified tax preparers. Training will be provided for all of these volunteer positions.
The Davidson County Tax Coalition, coordinated by Social Services, is a community based partnership with the IRS that has come together to help working families realize all the tax benefits available to them. Families can get financial relief and take steps to get out of poverty by using the free tax preparation services, claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other credits for which they are eligible when filing their taxes.
VITA sites will be located at various places around the county including all of the public libraries. These sites will operate from the end of January through mid-April. Times are primarily during the afternoon and early evening during the week and Saturdays.
- All successful VITA volunteers will enjoy working with people;
- Volunteers entering taxpayer information and/or preparing returns should be comfortable using a computer;
- Those wanting to become certified return preparers should have done their own tax return or at least consider themselves a "numbers person".
