Collapse/Expand  Duties
The employee will assist the Curator and Registrar with a variety of tasks that support the following areas: Education - Museum employees are expected to help with visitors as needed, answer the telephone, accurately recording messages, help with requests for information, etc. Collections - Cataloging, other duties in artifact storage areas on various projects. Exhibits - Moving small artifacts in and out of storage, as directed, for use in exhibits; helping with exhibit installation. Working with computerized curatorial records from the Museum's database in support of the above; helping visitors who request digital access to collection.

High school diploma or its equivalency is required. Experience in working with computers will be necessary for this job. Valid North Carolina Driver's License.

Applicant must also be able to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public, as well as accurately record and convey messages relating to day-to-day business. Position requires the knowledge and ability necessary to prepare and enter museum records under the direction of the staff. Ability to understand the registration system in order to assign numbers and terms to objects records; the ability to use various software programs on a computer (Microsoft Word, database software).

Must possess visual acuity to read and write handwritten and typed materials, and to read a computer screen. Must possess the ability to speak to and hear museum visitors and telephone callers. Must possess the mobility to physically move in and out of the Old Courthouse and throughout the building, as well as transport materials within the building. Visual acuity corrected to 20/20, kneel and lift up to 25 lbs.; manual dexterity for keyboard functions, communicate distinctly by phone or in person; walk from office to office, which involves walking up and down steps.
