Collapse/Expand  Duties
Position performs routine clerical support for the Inspections and Central Permitting departments. An employee in this class is responsible for answering incoming calls, greeting customers, record inspection request information from customers and enter into the computer. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Inspections Director. Answers incoming calls and forwards to the appropriate staff member or transmits information to field staff; maintains a log of all calls. Greets customers as they enter the office. Performs general clerical duties (i.e. copies, faxes and filing). Performs data entry. May obtain permit numbers for inspection requests to be completed by Permit Technicians. Verifies status of permits. Adheres to the department's safety rules and regulations. Performs other related duties as required.

Graduation from high school with a minimum of two years office experience. Valid North Carolina Driver License. Notary Public.

Must have excellent customer service skills. Must have good phone etiquette. Some knowledge of office procedures. Some knowledge of office equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers and other County employees.

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of kneeling, reaching, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to perform transcription and operate a computer terminal. Must possess the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned. Worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
