Davidson County collects and processes a variety of materials.  These materials can be dropped off at all eleven (11) Recycling Centers and the Convenience Center located at the Main Landfill.  Recycling Center locations and directions can be located under the "Sanitation" section at the top of this page.

Materials Accepted:

All Fibers (Newspaper, Cardboard, Mixed Residential Paper, Office Paper) - Keep dry and free from organic materials.
(All paper products, except cardboard, are now collected in one container at each Recycling Center.)

Clear, Brown and Green Glass Food and Beverage Containers - Please rinse and remove lids

Aluminum and Steel Cans - Please rinse

All #1 - #7 Plastic Bottles - Please rinse and remove lids.  (To be considered a bottle the container must have a body and a neck.)
*No plastic tubs or other rigid plastic*

Textiles (Clothing, Bedding, Shoes/Belts and all other Household Textiles) - Keep dry and free of oils and dirt

Automotive and Rechargeable Batteries - Place in designated containment areas

Used Motor Oil - No antifreeze or water contamination  (5 gallon limit per trip)

Used Oil Filters - Can be dropped off in designated barrels at each Recycling Center

All Consumer Electronics are accepted for recycling at the Landfill only

Scrap Metals, Old Appliances, and Scrap Tires are also accepted at the Landfill only

Eyeglasses and hearing aids are collected for Lion's International

Special Instructions:

Yard waste and other untreated wood must go to a local wood recycler.  Treated wood may be disposed of at the County Landfill.

City curbside programs may vary slightly.  Check with your city's sanitation department for details.

Sensitive Document Shredding Program:
Davidson County Sanitation and Recycling is now offering a free document destruction program.  We can shred any and all sensitve documents from your home or office.  Contact the Recycle Department at 336-242-2856.  Staff will assist you in arranging a date and time to bring your documents to our facility.  You owe it to yourself to have peace of mind.
