Commissioner Fred McClure was born on February 14, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He resides in the Welcome community and is a member of First Alliance Church. He serves as an Elder, adult Sunday school teacher, choir member, and CARE group leader. Commissioner McClure served four years in the United States Air Force and four years in the United States Navy. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation during his military career. Following his service in the armed forces, Commissioner McClure moved to Davidson County and is married to Kay McClure. Their family now consists of two grown children and three grandchildren.

Mr. McClure enjoys golfing and Corvettes. Commissioner McClure previously served as a Davidson County Commissioner from 1994 to 2002, and served on the boards of the following organizations: Chairman of Thomasville Medical Center Executive Board Treasurer of the National Motto Action Committee Member and past Chairman of Crimestoppers of Lexington Davidson County Senior Services Board Member Senior Tarheel Legislative Delegate (alternate) NC Association of County Commissioners Senior Services Steering Committee Piedmont Behavioral Health Board Member Appointed by the North Carolina Secretary of Health to serve on the SFAC Board (a family advocacy board for mental health) Yadkin Pee Dee River Basin Committee Member

Commissioner McClure's term on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners expires in December, 2012.  He is currently serving his fourth (non-consecutive) term.
