Commissioner Todd Yates was born in January of 1965 in Denton, North Carolina to Paul and Nina (Dean) Clayton Daniel Yates. He is a fourth generation resident of Davidson County.
After attending public school in Georgia, where his family has owned a road building business for the past forty years, Commissioner Yates moved back to Davidson County in 1982 and started his own grading and paving business, that has been in operation for twenty-five years. He is Owner and President of J. P. Yates Construction, Inc., and Yates Grading and Paving Co. Inc., providing grading, utilities and asphalt paving for primarily commercial and NCDOT projects. He also owns Yates Disposal, which provides roll off containers to general contractors and dumpsters to commercial businesses and restaurants, and TCB Builders, building highway projects and bridges.
Commissioner Yates holds a General Contractor's License in North and South Carolina for commercial building, heavy highway and utilities. Commissioner Yates also has developed several properties and has a small amount of commercial and residential rental properties. Commissioner Yates enjoys boating on High Rock Lake, camping, cooking, traveling, and reading.
Commissioner Yates currently resides in the Holly Grove community and attends Lexington Community Church. He is a past member of the Denton Jaycees and has held a private pilot license. Commissioner Yates currently serves on the following boards: Piedmont Triad Partnership, School Committee, Boone's Cave Park Committee, Tourism Partnership Board and Sewer Committee. Commissioner Yates is serving his first term on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners having been elected in November, 2010. His term will expire December, 2014.
