On April 2nd and 3rd, 21 middle school teams and 23 high school teams from the Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Area VIII, made up of 12 Counties, gathered at Horizons Unlimited to compete in the Southern Piedmont Envirothon. The competition tested their knowledge in the areas of aquatics, current environmental issues, forestry, soils, and wildlife.
Davidson County had 4 middle school teams and 3 high school teams competing in this event. In the middle school competition, the High Rock FFA Ag Sperts placed 1st, and the High Rock Ag All Stars placed 7th. Both teams are from Davidson County Home School. The Eco Dragons from Tyro Middle School placed 8th. In the high school competition, the High Rock FFA Beez Kneez placed 1st, and the High Rock Happy Penguins placed 3rd. Both teams are from the Davidson County Home School. The West Davidson FFA Team from West Davidson High School placed 16th.
NC STATE ENVIROTHON COMPETITION
Four teams from Davidson County qualified to compete at the State Envirothon. The State Competition was held at Cedar Rock Park in Alamance County on May 3rd and 4th where 51 middle school and 49 high school teams competed.
In the middle school competition, the High Rock FFA Ag Sperts placed 4th, and the High Rock Ag All Stars placed 29th. In the high school competition, the High Rock FFA Beez Kneez won 1st place and qualified to compete at the National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon Competition held at NC State University in Raleigh during the week of July 28th - Aug 3rd. The High Rock FFA Beez Kneez are eligible to compete at the National FFA Competition in Indiana during the week of October 28th - Nov 3rd. The High Rock Happy Penguins placed 5th in the high school competition.
