Congratulations to the High Rock FFA Beez Kneez of Davidson County Home School who placed 2nd at the 2019 NCF Envirothon at NC State University.  A total of 53 teams competed, with 6 teams from Canada and 2 from China.  North Carolina was well represented by team members Kati Provence, Reagan Dunn, Sydney Loflin, Amber Stiller, and David Soltani. Their team advisor is Lisa Loflin. The 1st place team was from Virginia, and the 3rd place team was from Pennsylvania.

Established in 1979, the National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envrothon Competition is a North American Event.  It was hosted this year by the North Carolina Envirothon, and was held at NC State University during the week of July 28th - Aug 3rd.  The NCF Envirothon is a hands-on annual environmental, problem-solving competition that builds leadership skills for high school students from participating States, Canadian Provinces and China, who won their Regional, State, or Provincial event.

Participating teams are trained and tested in diverse environmental issues, ecosystems, and topography in different locations each year.  Teams work collaboratively throughout the event and compete for recognition and scholarships by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management at five stations.  Teams are evaluated on their performance at each of the stations for their knowledge in Soils/Land Use, Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Wildlife, Current Environmental Issues, and are challenged to develop an oral presentation addressing a practical natural resource scenario.  The Oral Presentations are an important component of the competition.  Being able to orally communicate natural resource material is crucial in addressing environmental problems and issues, particularly in situations and scenarios where collaborative efforts are required to develop practical solutions.
