Programming Cancellations/Changes:
Effective immediately, Davidson County is cancelling/changing most programming/events (any large gatherings) due to NCDHHS COVID-19 Mitigation Measures dated March 12, 2020. Links to additional information regarding the affected programming are:

Parks and Recreation Leisure Activities - Bank fishing at Lake Thom-A-Lex will be suspended starting at park opening on Saturday, March 28, 2020. This will be in effect until the end of the State of Emergency.

Davidson County Planning & Zoning - Effective today, Planning and Zoning staff, with the exception of one individual who will remain in the office, will begin working remotely from home in response to COVID 19. Customers coming to the Planning Department needing our assistance will need to call the office at 336-242-2220 to make an appointment through the duration of the “State of Emergency” period.
Davidson County Cooperative Extension- Due to the current COVID-19 virus situation, Davidson County Cooperative Extension has implemented these measures to limit the opportunity for the virus to spread. We have limited staff physically at the office to 2 people per day while allowing the remainder of the staff to work remotely. This will allow continued service for clients visiting the office, picking up materials, and allow us to serve clients via telephone, email, personal visits, etc. All our county phones are equipped with voice mail that can be accessed remotely. If the staff member you need is not in the office, please leave a message as he/she will try to respond in a timely manner. In Addition, all Davidson County Cooperative Extension events (training, classes, meetings, etc.) that were scheduled March 17 - April 5, 2020, have been canceled.
Other tips:
Any face-to-face interaction involving County business that can be done electronically, please do so.
Please keep an eye on our elderly population (age 65 or older).
Stop Germs, Stay Healthy:
• Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, especially with unwashed hands.
• Stay home if you are sick.
• Cover your sneeze and your cough.
• Do not reuse tissues after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.
• Clean and disinfect surfaces that are touched frequently (Door knobs, light switches, desks, keyboards, etc.)
Lexington, NC – March 15, 2020 – The Davidson County Board of Commissioners conducted an emergency meeting this morning to consider entering a Declaration of State of Emergency and to consider granting broad authority to the County Manager regarding State of Emergency Powers. Although the Board elected not to declare a State of Emergency in Davidson County at this time, it did adopt a resolution authorizing County Manager Casey Smith temporary authorization to:
1) To adopt temporary amendments to the Human Resources Resolution including, among other things, the consideration of allowing County employees to apply for and take advanced sick leave;
2) To promote telework in order to address issues created by the coronavirus pandemic and to adopt a temporary policy to allow for employees to work from home;
3) To take such other and further action recommended by the Director of the Health Department to address issues created by the coronavirus pandemic, other than those actions specifically reserved to the Chair or the Board by Chapter 31 of Code of Ordinances for Davidson County; and,
4) That the temporary authority granted by this Resolution to the County Manager will expire, if not sooner terminated, on April 15, 2020.
The Resolution is in response to the Governor’s Executive Order No. 117 entitled "Prohibiting Mass Gatherings and Directing the Statewide Closure of K-12 Public Schools to Limit the Spread of COVID-19," and advice from the Director of the Health Department that circumstances may require that the County promptly address and resolve novel issues as they arise in protecting the health and safety of the residents of Davidson County in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19.
