The Davidson County Airport Authority intends to submit a request for state and federal financial assistance with the Federal Aviation Administration and North Carolina Department of Transportation Division of Aviation to help carry out the following project at the Davidson County Airport, Lexington, NC:
The project is the removal of tree obstructions within the 20:1 and 30:1 approach to Runway 06, as well as the missed approach penetrations at both the 200-foot and 250-foot height above touchdown (HAT) at the Davidson County Airport. The Proposed Action is located on off-airport property and requires access to three properties (Parcels 6714-03-00-5806, 6713-01-29-1142, and 6703-02-7-7217), totaling approximately ten acres, for which aviation easements would need to be acquired, to remove the tree obstructions.
The Proposed Action will be the removal or trimming of penetrations or near penetrations within the 20:1 and 30:1 approach, as well as the missed approach penetrations at both the 200-foot and 250-foot HAT over Parcels 6714-03-00-5806 (11 obstructions), 6713-01-29-1142 (one obstruction), and 6703-02-7-7217 (36 obstructions), with a potential impact area totaling approximately ten acres. After it is determined that the tree is an obstruction, the next step is to determine if the amount of trimming required would result in a healthy tree that would continue living. If the amount to be trimmed is 33 percent or greater than the total existing tree height, the tree was designated to be removed.
