How to Get a Library Card

To get a library card you must first register.  The first day you check out after you register, you are limited to two items.

Requirements:

  • Present a valid North Carolina driver’s license or other positive (picture) identification showing your current address.  If your photo ID does not have your current address, you must provide proof of a current address.
  • You must sign a statement that you will be responsible for returning materials on time and in good condition.
  • For children 18 and younger who do not have a valid photo ID, a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian must be present in order for them to register for a library card. Whoever signs for a minor to receive a library card is legally and financially responsible for all library materials that are returned late, damaged or lost under the child’s account.

The first card is issued free.  If you lose your card, you are responsible for contacting the library immediately.  Replacement cards are $3.00.  You must present your library card or valid photo identification to check out materials.

Where Can You Use Your Card?

Your library card can be used at any of the five Davidson County Library branches (Lexington, Thomasville, North Davidson, Denton, and West Davidson) or NC Cardinal Consortium Libraries across the state.

All NC Consortium libraries are connected by computer.  Anyone registered at one library is automatically registered at all of them.  Patrons must return any overdue materials and pay any outstanding fines before being allowed to check out more materials.
