Demand Response Transportation

Davidson County Transportation offers Demand Response transportation services for Davidson County residents unable to access the Deviated Fixed Routes.

DCTS offers Demand Response transportation services to those who qualify.  These services include but are not limited to: transportation for employment, DDCC, medical appointments, points from rural to urban areas, Senior Services appointments, as well as transportation to the Work First program.  Trips to grocery stores will be provided to the closest grocery store to the pickup site only.  Trips are within the county boundaries.  Trips for non-medical reasons are limited to a maximum of two trips per week.


Qualifications for General DCTS Demand Response Services

DCTS demand response services, within Davidson County, are available to all residents of Davidson County and are contingent on available funding. To use the demand response service, residents must schedule their trip at least 2 business days in advance by calling 336-242-2250, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. 

 

Riders with a pick-up and drop-off location within ¼ mile of a DCTS bus route will be encouraged to use the Deviated Fixed Route.

  1. By telephone, by calling (336) 242-2250, this is the number for the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) regional call center, they will transfer any calls inquiring about a trip request to the Davidson County main office to be evaluated.

 

  • All appointments must be scheduled during office hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. When leaving a voice message, please leave your name and phone number so that we may return your call.
  • Demand Response transportation trips require two (2) business days’ notice. Scheduled trips will be given our highest priority.  For trip requests with less than two (2) business days’ notice, DCTS staff in conjunction with our contractor will review the request and determine ability to provide the transportation. 
  • DCTS will schedule trips based upon available resources and advise the passenger of departure and arrival times.  DCTS will make every effort to transport all passengers on time; however, conditions beyond DCTS’ control may cause limited delays or early arrivals. 

    Whenever making an appointment you should be prepared to provide the following information.
    • Your name
    • Address
    • Date of birth
    • Mobility type
    • Contact number
    • Address of destination.
    • Requested appointment time.
    • Any attendants or additional riders 


DCTS request that you be ready at least one (1) hour prior to the appointed pick-up time. DCTS will only wait five (5) minutes upon arrival. If you do not ride for a requested pick up or return trip it will be considered a no-show in accordance with the DCTS no show policy.

 

Availability of “Out-of-County” transportation is based on availability of excess funding and is typically not available.   If “Out-of-County” Trip Requests are offered by DCTS: the following is in addition to all other policies regarding Demand Response trip requests:  the rider could be picked up for their appointment 2 hours prior to allow time to pick up/drop off additional riders to the same location or location on the route to the out-of-county destination.  

 

Demand Response Pick-Up and Wait Times


Pick-Up Times

DCTS passengers must be ready one hour prior to the scheduled pick-up time. Times may vary due to the location of the passenger’s home and/or destination. Please keep in mind that these services may be a shared ride service, and the exact pick-up time cannot be guaranteed.

 

Wait Times

Drivers will wait three (3) minutes past the pick-up time for passengers to board the vehicle. If the client is not ready to board, an attempt will be made to contact the individual by phone. After the call the client will be allowed two (2) additional minutes before the driver proceeds to his next destination. The Drivers will be allowed to wait a total of five (5) minutes for all clients. Wheelchair passengers will be provided with an additional five (5) minutes for loading and securing the wheelchair.   

 

No Charge to Client Trips


  1. Senior Citizens 60 years and older registered with Davidson County Senior Services for Congregate Nutrition sites trips, Life Center of Davidson County, Adult Day Health, Medical and Dental Appointments (Non-Medicaid recipients only) - (Medical trips include physicians, clinics, dialysis, vision, mental health and Chiropractic), Senior Centers (Lexington and Thomasville).

Passenger Assistance

 

  • Assistance escorts may accompany passengers who are unable to access DCTS vehicles on their own (wheelchair, walker, visually impaired, etc.).  The passenger is responsible for providing his or her own escort.  An escort must be physically able to provide all assistance needs to the passenger except for services that are the responsibility of the Driver.  The DCTS Driver is responsible for operating the wheelchair lift and securing the wheelchair once the passenger and the mobility device is in place within the vehicle. 

 

  • Door to Door service for those requiring assistance from DCTS Drivers, are as follows:

 

    • The DCTS Driver or contractor, in coordination with the office personnel, will determine whether the client can be safely transported from their door to the vehicle.  Any barriers that may prevent the safe loading or unloading of the passenger or require the Driver to exert more than 75 pounds of pushing or pulling pressure will be grounds for terminating the trip unless the passenger or agency requesting the service provides on-site assistance to the DCTS Driver or contractor.  DCTS or contractor drivers will make reasonable accommodations to help board passengers. 

 

    • For reasons of safety, training, and liability, Drivers will not physically lift a person into or out of a wheelchair 

 

    • In the performance of their duties, DCTS or contract drivers are not permitted to enter a passenger’s resident or privately-owned buildings nor is the Driver permitted to lose sight of the vehicle at any time when providing services at a private dwelling.         Institutions providing care to individuals needing DCTS services should have passengers ready at the entrance when the vehicle arrives. 

 

    • DCTS Drivers or contractors will not load or unload a passenger’s personal belongings, packages, mail, or freight.         All clients must arrange to have these items carried to and from the DCTS vehicle.
